SUTIL Lubricant Review

SUTIL Lubricant

Good lubricants make me happy. They make me confident, acknowledged as a woman, celebrated as a human being who deserves pleasure. They make me feel taken care of. Quality lubes make my sex life happier, and they definitely make my vagina happier after long love-making/fucking sessions. Whether I just cherish my own body, or I dive into partnered sex, I often end up chafing and suffer from a lot of friction burn. The result: the skin of my vaginal walls feels dry and bruised, and it’s very uncomfortable. I bet that’s not what you want your mornings-after to feel like. But the truth is that sex equals friction, and using sex toys equals even more friction, sooo… So nothing! You shouldn’t just take one for the team. That’s not how it should feel. Because it can feel so much better. It’s as simple as adding some high-quality long lasting lube. Often that’s all it takes to get from sad to happy.

What is Sutil to me? It’s the Tesla S of lubricants. It’s Eco-friendly, made with care and sustainability in mind, it’s new-age, alternative, revolutionary, looks like and performs like something that came from the future.

Who’s behind Sutil?

Sutil is a sister-brand of Hathor Aphrodisia. Hathor is a Canada-based, women-owned small business that didn’t just go green. It was conceived green in 1989. Their ingredients are Eco-certified and come from organic farms. It all started with spa products, aphrodisiac oils and lotions. Paraben free, glycerin free and free of harsh chemicals is not just a trend for Hathor. It’s their mission, and their philosophy.

It’s no wonder that Sutil comes in a biodegradable tube, with no useless outer packaging, and no paper waste. The tube looks like a high-end body lotion or hand cream. It only says “luxe body glide” in English and French. Their logo represents a beautiful blossoming lotus flower. It’s the perfect metaphor for female sexuality and female anatomy alike.

What’s inside Sutil?

The list of their ingredients is a who’s who in botanical, natural goodness: Aqua, Propanediol* (Zamea, botanical source), Hyaluronic Acid (Botanical source), Nelumbo Nucifera Root Extract* (Lotus Root), Oat Beta Glucan*, Gluconolactone*, Sodium Benzoate*,Citric Acid. *Eco-Certified Ingredients. What does that actually mean? Eco-Cert: “ingredients derived from renewable resources, manufactured by environmentally friendly processes”.

How is this good for you?

Lotus root: helps skin regeneration, faster healing of wounds, it’s a rich source of minerals,  vitamins A and C, and helps with inflammation processes. It’s an antioxidant, and helps collagen synthesis in your body.

Plant sourced Hyaluronic Acid: it’s found naturally in our bodies. It’s extremely hydrating and boosts skin elasticity. It also promotes cell growth.

Oat Beta Glucan: helps wound healing and collagen synthesis as well, it’s deeply soothing and moisturizing to the skin.

How does Sutil feel?

dscn1052You know I’ve tried and review a number of lubricants. I’ve used a fair number of the whole Sliquid range (including Organics Gel and Sassy), all of Good Clean Love products, the Organics lube by Wet, Aloe Cadabra, and Coconu. The fact is that Sutil is the longest lasting water-based lube I’ve tried. If I have to be honest it’s a close call with the new CBD CaraGold from Good Clean Love. It’s possible that they tie for first place. And yes, Sutil does feel much more like a silicone-based lubricant, without any silicone ingredients in it. It behaves better even than hybrid lubricants (water and silicone blend). It’s a lubricant that’s a little on the runny and liquidy side, so it might not be a perfect match if you’re looking for something super thick.

It blends really well with my own lubrication and creates a feeling of long-lasting hydration. The moisturizing properties of this lube last the day after and make my bangover (what you’re experiencing the morning after a lot of sex) recovery much faster. Actually, besides sore muscles and other completely unrelated “pains” from the heated night, there isn’t much to recover from. Because with Sutil I don’t get sore to begin with.

Is there any residue? Not in the common meaning of lube residue. It’s not sticky, it doesn’t turn into a yucky mess, but when I try it on my skin anywhere on my body and smear it, after a very long period of rubbing it and waiting for it to dry out, when it eventually does, it doesn’t just feel dry and evaporated. The spot that had the lube feels as if I put cream or lotion on it. It’s very nourished and moisturized. It washes off really quickly and there’s no post coital mess.

Who is Sutil for?

  • It’s a wonderful lube for anal play and fierce fingering. Provides a really comfortable “cushioning” and glide.
  • It’s great for long-lasting vaginal sex or if you need a lot of extra lubrication.
  • The ingredients make it perfect for postpartum bodies and after-baby sex.
  • If you are like me and tend to get sore from toys or intercourse.
  • If you’re simply looking for a really long lasting water-based lube.
  • All fans of silicone-based lube, that are searching for an organic, botanical, water-based option.
  • Delicious hand-jobs without any penis chafing.
  • Users of sex toys (as silicone-based toys are often incompatible with silicone lube).
  • Anyone who wants a lube with extra health benefits.
  • Anyone who’s in a long distance relationship or who experiences a pattern of not having sex altogether for a long period of time and then having a lot of it over a very short period of time. I was in a cross-continent relationship not so long ago and I definitely could use some Sutil to help with the fierce love-making!

Who is Sutil not for?

When it comes to lube, no two people are alike. Clearly this lube can’t fit all needs, and:

  • If you don’t like it too wet and slippery, maybe that’s not the best choice for you.
  • It also has a little bit of a bitter taste, and if you are mixing and matching activities, that might be a little off-putting for some people during oral sex.
  • It’s not a cheap lube, so if you’re financially strained and looking for a budget option, it might not be a good fit for you either.
  • If you are looking for a very thick and richer lube, the current version of Sutil might not be for you.

Luckily, the brand is working on a thicker formula and hopefully the new version of the lube will hit the market soon.

Should you get one?

I think it’s worth every dime given how long-lasting it is and the overall quality of the product. You can get yours directly from their website. You get to choose from a few options: 2 oz travel-size bottle for $15 USD, 4 oz for $24, and 8 oz for $37. I love their value pack! That one is going to last you a year! You can get their 10 ml samples (which are simply adorable) and always carry them in your purse or your pocket. I think this is the lube of the future and I wish I could magically deliver it to every woman and every couple who needs it. Don’t believe me it’s that good? Watch this video by Self Serve Toys.

You can also find them at my favorite sex stores Shevibe and Good Vibrations, or at Come As You Are if you live in Canada.

CaraGold CBD Lubricant

Updated on 12/12/2016.

CBD CaraGold Lubricant

You’ve already heard about my love for Good Clean Love. You’ve all seen it on the Netflix Original “Easy“. So what more is there to say? Lube is lube, right? They’re all the same!

Short reminder that this is absolutely not true. 95% of the lubricants are made with petrochemicals, glycerin and propylene glycol. They’re tested on animals and are harmful for the mucous tissue of human vaginas, rectums and penises. They put women at risk of BV and yeast infections, and at 13 times higher risk of being infected with an STI.

We don’t just need lubricants with ingredients we don’t hate, but we need lubricants with ingredients we love; which are not just “not harmful” but are actually beneficial and make your body healthier.

And in this regard Good Clean Love have outdone themselves. It wasn’t enough that they’re making some of my beloved lubes Almost Naked and Guilty Pleasure. When they introduced their newest creation CaraGold, and I read all the educational materials, I was already doing a little happy dance. Little did I know that it was even better in practice than in theory.

The science behind the ingredients

What is CaraGold? Despite what you see in this hypnotic video, no, the actual lubricant is not “golden”, nor it is made with gold (the substance being poured on the tube is not the lube itself). It’s made with something even better. The precious certified organic CBD Hemp Oil.

CBD CaraGold Lubricant

Cannabidiol, or CBD, has strong healing and pain relieving effects. Unlike the better known and more commonly used THC, CBD doesn’t have any psychotropic effect and interacts in multiple ways with the body’s endocannabinoid system. Recent research with CBD has shown significant reduction in inflammation and pain symptoms. It is a healthy and natural analgesic, antioxidant, anti-convulsant and anti-depressant.

Carrageenan, a red algae has been shown to prevent HPV (Human papillomavirus) acquisition. According to the Center for Disease Control roughly 79 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, which makes it the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. And while using barrier protection (such as condoms) reduces significantly your risk of contracting it, that’s not enough to protect you, because it’s transmitted via skin-to-skin contact. Condoms don’t cover the whole intimate area around the penis, nor prevent contact with the vulva (vulva is everything that’s outside: inner and outer lips, clit, etc.). Using dental dams and cloves can help and reduce your risk of getting infected, but again, if you don’t eliminate all the skin to skin action, you’re never entirely protected. Carrageenan has may act as an inhibitor to HPV and it’s a natural and healthy ingredient.

Organic Aloe gives the lubricant a really long-lasting formula, while it helps the skin regenerate and leave it naturally hydrated.

Full list of ingredients: Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan, Organic-compliant flavor (EU: Aroma), Lactic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Organic Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil.

CaraGold comes in a 2 oz tube, placed in a beautiful little paper box that has all the information you will need. It looks really stylish and fancy, it has the usual Good Clean Love Green, but the letters and logos are gold, instead of white. It looks super fancy and is a great gift. In terms of sustainability and being green, I can spare the paper box. It does give a nice finish and makes everything easier to read than the little font on the bottle itself, but I can give up on that and help save some trees instead.

The feel

CaraGold is easily one of the longest lasting water-based, vegan lubricants I’ve ever used. It comes in a thick, gel-like formula, and it doesn’t drip and it doesn’t make a mess. The little pea-size squeeze that you will need stays where you put it, even before smearing it, which in my book is a huge deal. I can’t deal with runny lubes. I want the lube to stay on my sex toy, on my partner’s penis or vulva and not drip everywhere. I basically don’t want more lube on the sheets than on the bits.

dscn9898I don’t know what miracle formula Good Clean Love came up with, but it is soooo long-lasting. They’re recommending it as a natural water-based silicone alternative, and they got really close. What does this mean? Silicone lubes are super long-lasting and don’t dry out, compared to water-based ones. CaraGold is a water-based lube, but with a texture and qualities closer to silicone lubricants. At the same time the water and CBD lube mixes with and compliments your natural fluids, while silicone stays separated. And if I have to be honest it actually feels far better than any silicone lube I’ve tried, because it’s thicker and it blends with my natural lubrication. It enhances my own wetness. You really do need only a small drop without having to reapply too often. Using it for vaginal intercourse helps with my dryness. And not just during the act, but it actually has a long-lasting healing effect. My vagina keeps self lubricating even the day after. It blends in and complements my own lubrication really well.

Where Good Clean Love CBD CaraGold really shines is anal sex. The consistency is very slippery and almost doesn’t need reapplying. I can say that it gave me some of the most wonderful anal sex experiences I’ve ever had.

It doesn’t have any pronounced taste nor smell, and, unlike other organic lubes, it’s not bitter. Which makes it great for oral sex too (and don’t forget that HPV can be contracted via oral sex, so the powers of Carrageenan are helping you stay safer).

CaraGold is really one of the most versatile lubricants I’ve ever used. It’s superb for practically anything. From oral sex and hand jobs to vaginal and anal sex. And it’s even safe to use with your silicone sex toys. It gets a “check” in all of my boxes!

Pro tips

dscn9891-copyI love using it during my period. It helps my body not lose its pH balance, and not get too dry during my monthly flow. I put a tiny bit at the tip of my tampon or on the edge of my menstrual cup. It makes insertion easier, helps with pain and discomfort, and reduces the damage tampons cause to my body (yes, ladies, you know all too well that horrible dryness) or the friction burn from placing a menstrual cup.

And another tip for champions. During play time you can reactivate the lube with water. Yes! Unlike other water based lubes, this one can get reactivated just by adding some water. I would recommend keeping some water spray (like the way you mist your plants with). You need to add just a few drops on the areas where you’ve already had the lube and it will keep sliding.

CaraGold and Condoms

Is what we know about oils and latex really true? It turns out that we don’t know nearly enough, and that what’s backed up by science is that mineral oil and pure coconut oil could damage condoms, but there aren’t studies  showing all oils break down latex. This is why Good Clean Love sent CaraGold to a lab to see if it was in fact not latex compatible. It’s a water-based lube that has a tiny bit of CBD oil. And luckily, the results came out at the end of October and CaraGold is latex condom-safe.

Last thoughts

CaraGold comes loaded with ingredients I love. It made its way to the top in my “most versatile” and “best texture and feel” charts. There isn’t a single thing that I don’t like about it. Except the price. I know that quality ingredients and especially CBD are really expensive, and I know that doing business in a responsible way is really difficult and keeps the costs high. But the truth is that most people aren’t going to be able to afford $20 for a 2 oz lube.

Do I think it’s worth it? I absolutely do because it’s long lasting, you’re not going to run out of it very fast. And if you want a lubricant that has amazing health benefits you should absolutely try it. Good Clean Love offers a pack of three 4 ml sample pillows for $1.99 and this is a good way to check it out and decide whether it’s for you. And subscribe to Good Clean Love’s newsletter, they have some great weekly deals and sales. You can also find it at a number of stores and pharmacies, as well as at most sex stores.

The Butters Lubricant Review

Diving deeper and deeper into the world of lube. Or more like slipping into the world of lube.

Wanna join me? Enter my Safer and Wetter Giveaway!

If we were to rank the types of lube by popularity and visibility, I would say oil-based lubes are the most overlooked and underappreciated ones. There are literally hundreds of choices of water-based lubricants (probably 90 to 95% of which contain glycerin and propylene glycol: Momma no!!!), there are silicone-based ones, which are pretty damn expensive and can ruin your silicone sex toys, there are hybrids (water and silicone or water and oils) and all the way at the back of the line are oil-based lubes. Or are they? Just because we don’t see them (much) in the drug store or sex shops, that doesn’t mean that people don’t use oils as lubricants. I am pretty sure that a large number of people have their coconut or olive oil in their bedroom, not in the kitchen pantry. And there’s nothing wrong with that, except that these products are not made for sex, and they’re not entirely well balanced for your optimal intimate health.

When the established sex blogger behind LTASex reached out to me with his new creation, The Butters, I was thrilled to get to try it out and review it. Why did a sex blogger need to start making their own lube, one might ask. Aren’t there enough options already? If you are looking for a product that is: healthy, all-natural, long-lasting, extra slippery, safe for all kinds of sex and toys, and is cheap, you are up for a failure. There wasn’t a single product that met all of these requirements. Water-based lubes will eventually dry out and you will need a ton of reapplication, silicone lubes are not compatible with silicone toys, and the few oil-based lubes out there are very expensive.

A 4 oz jar of the Butters sells for… $5.00. Need I say more?

Of course I will say more, because I am a sex geek and some of you need all the information there is before committing to putting something new down there.

The Formula

The butters is really creamy and silky. I am just crazy about how well-balanced and well-made it is. It’s not too liquidy, it’s not too hard, nor solid and definitely is not oily. It has aloe vera gel, not just a mixture of oils, which makes it more cream-like vs oil-like. It’s super moisturizing, blends right in, yet, it is so long lasting and gives you such a continuous glide. No tackiness and stickiness. And once it touches your skin, it will start melting a bit from the warmth of your body (you know how coconut and shea butters can be solid, but once in contact with your skin, they liquefy).

At Use

The Butters is good for any type of partnered or solo sex, really. It’s so delicious and slippery for hand-jobs, fingering, jerking off and all sorts of delightful hand sex or massages. Extra perk: it makes one’s body parts look so sexy. There are few things sexier than a greasy, oily, shiny penis. Or breasts. Or ass. Or legs. I challenge you to think of anything that beats that. Hey, hey! Don’t get too distracted there. Or if you already did, come back and read the rest of the review, after you’re done (wink).

This lube just perfect for anal sex. So perfect. So long-lasting. So goooood. And all of the ingredients actually help with skin elasticity. It’s awesome for your silicone butt plugs too. I can’t emphasize this enough, because silicone toys can only be used with hybrid, water or oil-based lube, out of which only the oil-based one gives sufficient slipperiness. The rectum absorbs water and a water-based lube isn’t gonna get you anywhere, if you are planning on wearing a plug for extended periods of time.

The Butters Oil-based LubeIt’s entirely healthy and body safe for vaginal intercourse too. It actually helps you fight off yeast infections (all the fatty acids from the oils are really healthy for your puss or cock). There are myths that oil-based lubes are really bad for the vagina, that they coat its walls, harbor bacteria and don’t let the vagina self-clean and perform its balancing functions. That’s all true for lubes with petroleum oil and petrochemicals. It does not apply for organic natural oils.

And lastly, it’s edible and completely safe for oral sex, too. It doesn’t have any taste, just a slight… hemp oil smell, barely noticeable. One extra benefit: your lips will get extra moisturized.

Don’t double dip. No dick-hand in the jar. If you’ve touched an intimate body-part, don’t go reaching into the jar again. You can solve this with keeping a small spoon, a wooden disposable stir, or one of these cosmetic spatulas you can find at Sephora (you can grab a few for free, they have them with all the swabs and little brushes that you’re supposed to test products with).

Don’t you just love multipurpose products? I know I do. The Butters is just a miracle in a jar for your skin and hair. Some of its uses and applications (quoted from its official website): Hair & Skin Conditioner, Ashiness Eraser, Personal Lubricant, Massage Lotion, Face Cleanser, Makeup Remover, Wood & Leather Cleaner/Conditioner, Hot Oil Treatment, Shaving Lubricant, Beard Conditioner, Skin Protector, Tattoo Aftercare. I’ve tried it for almost everything in this list and it’s fabulous. I can add: cuticle oil, split ends hair treatment, and a lip balm to the list too. But just honestly: for anything on your body that is dry and dehydrated.

The Butters is vegan and cruelty free, pH balanced and hypoallergenic. It contains a whole lot of natural goodness, such as aloe and six of the most beneficial plant butters. Complete list of ingredients: pure organic aloe vera fillet gel, raw grade a golden ghanaian shea butter, pure coconut oil, pure extra virgin olive oil, pure grapeseed oil, pure palm kernel oil, pure soy lipid emulsion, apple cider vinegar, arrowroot gel. You can find a really detailed explanation of the health benefits of each of the ingredients on The Butters website.

The Butters and Condoms

This one is really important: oils ARE NOT compatible with latex products! They destroy it. Which means that you should not use it with latex safer sex supplies and barriers. Luckily Trojan Supra is a good option with oils. Avoid latex-free condoms such as SKYN and Durex Avanti because they’re are made from Polyisoprene which still gets damaged by oil-based lubricants. And there’s, of course, the FC2 condom, which is an internal condom and is just aaawesome! You can’t use The Butters with dental dams, because they’re all latex, but you can cut a non-latex condom and turn it into a dental dam. There are also a ton of latex-free gloves, so you are all covered.

And clearly the lube is great for fluid-bonded sex: that’s not using barriers with a partner that’s either monogamous with you or goes bareback only with you and uses protection with other partners. If you want to go condom-less, you will both need to know your STI status. Luckily that’s something that you can do from the comfort of your own home.

Where to get it?

You can get if straight from the manufacturer. As I said, The Butters is a small independent business, run by one man. If you want to support entrepreneurship and if you passionately hate corporate America (or simply despise Astroglide and KY as much as I do), or if you just wanna buy CHEAP long-lasting lube, The Butters is your answer. It starts from $3 for a 2 oz, $5 for 4 oz jar and $10 for an 8 oz one. Shipping is just $5 and it’s free on orders over $30.
